Christ’s 2nd coming happened in the last days of the Old Covenant in AD70

Many Christians have been taught that they are living in the last days or that the end times is in the future.

The prophet Isaiah said that in the last days, God’s temple would bring people from all nations to know Him in Jerusalem.

Isaiah 2 “concerning Judah and Jerusalem 2 In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.”

Many people think that this is about the earthly city of Jerusalem and their temple. Some Christians believe that God will have Israel rebuild the temple in the “last days”.

But we have to remember that everything in the Old Testament is a shadow pointing to the reality of Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 10 “The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves.”

Colossians 2 “17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.”

Jesus came to fulfill the law and prophets of Israel (Matthew 5:17, Romans 3:21-23)

He came in the last days of Israel’s Old Covenant to establish the everlasting New Covenant.

Hebrews 1 “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son,”

Hebrews 8:13 “13 By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.”

The Old Covenant was vanishing away but the New Covenant remains forever.

When Jesus was born, He was under the Old Covenant, the Age of Moses.

Galatians 4 “4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, “

Christ died at the end of the age to make the New covenant through His blood on the cross.

Hebrews 9 “he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.”

Jesus died at the end of the old covenant age and rose again to promise a new covenant age.

Ephesians 2 “6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—”

Jesus brought the new age – the New Covenant age that will never end in this world.

Ephesians 3 “Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”

The Bible is not about the destruction/creation of the planet but about covenants.

The 2nd coming of Christ was promised at the end of the old covenant age when the temple was destroyed in AD70.

Matthew 24 “Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2 “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.” 3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”…..34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

The old heaven and earth passed away in AD70 when the old covenant age ended.

The law was until the 2nd coming when the age (heaven and earth) passed away.

Matthew 5 “17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.”

The entire Law / old covenant passed away, 40 years (one generation) after the cross.
The law and prophets were fulfilled at the 2nd coming of Christ in AD70.

The new heaven and earth came in AD70 when the heavenly Jerusalem replaced the earthly Jerusalem and its Temple.

Revelation 21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband….22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.”

Jesus is the Temple of the new heaven and earth.

You see, in the last days of the previous age, Jesus died on the cross and the veil of the temple tore. At His 2nd coming at the end of the age, on the last day (Day of the Lord), the temple itself was destroyed. The Day of the Lord destroyed the old heaven and earth.

We live in the New Age – the New heaven and earth, the New Covenant Age where Jesus is the Temple.

After the 2nd coming of Christ, people from all nations are coming to God through faith in Jesus Christ, to receive the healing of salvation/eternal life.

Revelation 22 “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be any curse.”

This is how the prophecies of the Old Testament were fulfilled in Christ who came in the last days at His 2nd coming in AD70.

The Apostles and Jesus said that the 1st Century Israelites were living in the last days and that is why they said these words:

Peter said on the Day of Pentecost, that the Holy Spirit came in the last days just before the 2nd coming of Christ, as prophesied by Joel in the Old Testament:

Acts 2 “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them……. this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people…..before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. 21 And everyone who calls    on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

Peter and John said that they were living just before Jesus was coming back!

1 Peter 2 “The end of all things is near. “

1 John 2 “18 Dear children, this is the last hour”

James warned the rich people of Jerusalem that they were in the last days and told the believers that Jesus was at the door, imminently going to return.

James 5 “Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on youYour wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter.  You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you. Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!”

That is why Jesus testified that He was coming soon because it was the last days of Israel’s old covenant.

Revelation 22 “10 Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this scroll, because the time is near…..20 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.””

The last days ended in AD70.
The old covenant ended in AD70 at the 2nd coming of Christ.

We live in the New covenant world that will never end.
Today there is no law.
Today there is only Grace to the nations by faith in Jesus.
Everyone who believes in Jesus is forgiven, saved, righteous, without works, having eternal life.

Everyone who does not believe in Jesus will perish forever.
