Is the Bible the literal word of God talking about literal events?
The answer is no because of the following evidence
The Bible says that the world was created in 6 literal days (mornings and evenings) that happened 6000 years ago. But there is no evidence for this. The evidence shows that the earth is 4 billion years old and that humanity has existed for 300,000 years. Of course, I believe that God created and evolved this universe into what we have today.
The Bible says that Adam and Eve were the first human beings who were walking around naked in a mythical garden in the Middle-East that had 2 magic trees that caused life or death, and were talking to a walking snake. The Bible also says that Adam lived up to 930 years and that the characters of the Bible had a lifespan of many hundreds of years. But there is no evidence of Adam and Eve or the garden of Eden. There is no evidence that human beings had such large lifespans. All the evidence points to short lifespans of 20-50 years for humanity in that time period and beyond.
The Bible says that God called Abraham and commanded his descendants to be circumcised to enter the covenant of blessings. But why would God command circumcision for blessings? That makes no sense when in the New Testament, Paul says that if anyone is circumcised then they are under the curse of the law. So was God putting Israel under the curse of the law for 2000 years while ignoring the Gentiles? That makes no sense when we see that Jesus offered grace to Israel and the Gentiles through faith and not works of the law.
The Bible says that God chose Israel but ignored the Gentile nations. It says that God commanded Israel to capture the land of foreign nations and commit genocide. That makes no sense when we compare the teachings of Jesus who taught to love your enemies and not harm them or take revenge or even speak a bad word against anyone.
There is no evidence that the exodus literally happened and that 2-3 million Israelites spent 40 years in the wilderness or that Moses gave the Law to Israel. All of these are traditions and heavily exaggerated stories just like many religions in the world.
All of this shows that the Bible is not literally the word of God. The Bible evolved as a set of religious teachings through the experience of the Jews. They wrote what they saw as their own interpretation of God until Jesus came.
God is not a law-giver. God does not send curses. God does not command works.
God is grace. God is unconditional love. That love was demonstrated by Jesus on the cross who forgave those who crucified Him. Jesus taught to love your enemies because God does not hate anyone.
The only truth is the Grace and love of God expressed through His Son, Jesus Christ.
All of the Bible is a metaphor until we come to the person of Jesus.
The Bible is mostly about the Law of man’s works where man fails.
But in Jesus, we are righteous without works by the Grace of God.
John 1 ” 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.”
The Bible ends in Jesus. The Bible is fulfilled in Jesus. When we realize the grace of God in Jesus and not our works, then all things are new, and it is finished.
Revelation 21 “6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.”21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.”
2 Corinthians 5 “17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Let us stop trying to be righteous by our works, faith, endurance, trials, efforts, etc.
Let us rest in Jesus who made us righteous by His grace.
Let us accept God’s truth that Jesus became sin to make us righteous without our works.
This is the Grace of God that ends the Bible.
Revelation 22 “21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.”
