The Bible can be summed up in two systems:
- Man tries to earn God’s blessings by his works. This is called the old covenant or the Law. It began with Adam’s sin that resulted in earthly suffering and separation from God.
- The Grace of God where He blesses us by His will and works through Jesus Christ and not our will/desire/works.
After Adam’s sin, God called Abraham, an old man with no children, in a random part of the world – to become the father of nations, to be blessed with abundant children as numerous as the stars, to inherit the promised land.
Abraham’s descendants were Israel – to whom God promised the land of blessings – if they obeyed the old covenant law (10 commandments + 603 ordinances).
But they failed because no man is righteous by their works. They were cursed with exile and suffering.
The old covenant was the system of man’s works that would result in God’s blessings – but it ended in expected failure and curses/earthly suffering.
Then God promised a New Covenant of Grace where He would forgive their sins and bless them with earthly blessings in a new promised land.
This was fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ.
Jesus never sinned but He suffered brutally on the cross for the sins of the world.
He reversed the curse of Adam and the curse of the Law of Moses.
Now God has given grace to the world.
Jesus became sin so that we can become Righteous by the Grace of God.
Jesus rose from the dead proving that He is the Son of God and that He forgave all our sins.
Now we don’t need to do any works to become righteous.
We are Righteous without works – we are saved and blessed by the grace of God in Jesus Christ.
Under the law it was a curse trying to be righteous by works.
Galatians 3 “10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” 11 Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.” 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ “
Jesus became a curse so that we receive every blessing by the Grace of God.
Ephesians 1 “3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,”
When we are under God’s grace, we have every blessing in Jesus Christ.
Revelation 22 “3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.”
There is no more curse for us but only blessings by God’s grace, and not our efforts.
The entire Bible has been fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ.
The Grace of our Lord Jesus is the only truth.
John 1 “17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”
Revelation 22 “21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.”
