Jesus replaced the Sabbath day with Faith alone
Some Christians think that they need to keep the Jewish Sabbath from Friday sundown to Saturday evening.
While other Christians think that the Sabbath is now the Sunday when they go to Church.
But both are wrong – because Christ ended the law and the sabbath days, etc.
The entire law has been replaced by faith in Jesus.
Colossians 2 “13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.”
The law ended on the cross and Jesus forgave our sins when we believed in Him.
So now the believer is not under the law and NOT required to keep the Sabbath.
Colossians 2 “16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. 20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.”
The entire ten commandments ended on the cross so that righteousness is given to all who believe in Jesus.
Romans 10 “4 Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.”
Ephesians 2 “8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works (of the ten commandments), so that no one can boast…..15 by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations….through the cross,”
The ten commandments and the Sabbath and all laws ended on the cross.
When God created the world (old creation) after 6 days, He rested on the 7th day Sabbath.
But then Adam sinned and brought unrest to the world.
Now, God had to do a greater work through Jesus Christ to bring rest to the world.
The Cross of Jesus Christ is far greater than the 6-day creation. The cross brought the forgiveness of sins.
Jesus finished the work when He died on the cross. He then rose from the dead and sat down in heaven. Jesus is not doing any work there because the work is finished and He is resting.
When we believe in Jesus, we are the New Creation who is resting in the love of God.
That is the true meaning of the Sabbath – The finished work of Jesus Christ – the resting place of God.
We enter this Rest by believing in Jesus. But those who don’t believe will perish in unrest.
Hebrews 4 “9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish….. 3 Now we who have believed enter that rest,”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
When we believe in Jesus, we are made alive, forgiven all sins, and seated in heavenly places with Jesus, in His Rest!
Ephesians 2 ” 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,”
Everyone who believes in Jesus is forgiven all sins, and has entered the Sabbath Rest in Jesus Christ.
The law (10 commandments) is a burden because it demanded perfection.
Acts 15:10 “a yoke that neither we (Jews) nor our ancestors have been able to bear…No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved just as they (Gentiles) are”
Jesus removes all the burdens of works by saving us by grace through faith and not our works!
Matthew 11 “28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.””
When we truly stop trusting in our works and the burdens of religion, then we find rest by faith in Jesus Christ.
Romans 4 “4 Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. 5 However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness….God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.”
The work of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection has brought us rest.
The Sabbath day and the Law does not exist anymore because ALL of that has been replaced by faith in Jesus.
We find rest by faith in Jesus without doing any works of the ten commandments that ended on the cross!
