There are no covenants today but only eternal life offered in Jesus.

There are no covenants today but only eternal life offered in Jesus.

Most Christians think that we are under the New Covenant. But that is not true.

We are not under any covenants of Israel.

The New covenant was given for one reason: to obey the law.

What was the reason to obey the law? To be righteous.

Deuteronomy 6:25 “25 And if we are careful to obey all this law before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness.””

Righteousness was to obey the law. Sin was the breaking of the commandments of the law.

If they obeyed the law then they would be “saved” by entering the promised land.

Deuteronomy 28 “ If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth…..The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you.”

Israel failed to obey the law and were judged and sent to exile, scattered in the nations.

Deuteronomy 28 “15 However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you…64 Then the Lord will scatter you among all nations”

After they were scattered into the nations, God promised a New Covenant to bring them back to the land, forgive all their sins committed under the Law.

Jeremiah 31 “31 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. 32 It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, 33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 34 No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares the Lord. “For I will forgive their wickednessand will remember their sins no more.””……….27 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will plant the kingdoms of Israel and Judah with the offspring of people and of animals. 28 Just as I watched over them to uproot and tear down, and to overthrow, destroy and bring disaster, so I will watch over them to build and to plant,” declares the Lord. “

Jesus Christ came to forgive the sins committed by Jews under the old covenant law / ten commandments:

Hebrews 9 “15 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.”

The main purpose of the New Covenant was to forgive past sins under the Law and to write the law in their hearts so that they would not sin anymore.

Jeremiah 32 “40 I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me. “

Hebrews 10 “16 “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.””

This was done by the Holy Spirit, received by faith in Jesus.

The purpose of the Holy Spirit was for them to obey the law from the heart.

Romans 8 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

The purpose for the Holy Spirit was for them to stop sinning and stop breaking the law so that they would be saved.

Romans 8 “12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.”

Romans 13 “8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”

If they loved one another by following Jesus then they would fulfill the law and not sin. They would become perfect as Jesus commanded.

Matthew 5 “43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Ephesians 5 “1 Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them.”

The purpose of the New Covenant was to forgive their past sins, and give them the power of the Holy Spirit to follow Jesus and stop sinning so that they would be perfect and saved in the end because the Judgment day was based on works of the law / ten commandments:

Romans 2 “6 God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” 7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. 8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. 9 There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; 10 but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 11 For God does not show favoritism. 12 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. 14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) 16 This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.”

Nobody could be saved by their works of the old covenant and that is why they needed faith in Jesus in the New Covenant to receive the Holy Spirit and obey the law. But if they rejected the commandments then they would be judged.

James 2 “8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right. 9 But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. 11 For he who said, “You shall not commit adultery,” also said, “You shall not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.”

The entire purpose of the New Covenant was to obey the law.

The Gentiles were guilty under the Old Covenant because they were not circumcised.

Colossians 2 “13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,”

The Jews were circumcised but guilty of breaking the ten commandments.

Nobody could do it in the flesh under the Old Covenant and that is why they needed a New Covenant in the power of the Spirit to obey the law.

The reason they needed to obey the law was because they lived in the last days of the law.

Hebrews 1 “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son,”

Hebrews 8 “13 By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.”

Jesus was supposed to return in the 1st Century and make the New Covenant with Israel if they had followed Him. Jesus would have returned if the 144,000 from Israel were saved.

Revelation 22 “6 The angel said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.” 7 “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.””

Revelation 7 “4 Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.”

But Israel failed to follow Jesus. The New Covenant failed just like the Old Covenant failed and Jesus did NOT come back to Israel in the 1st Century.

Today there is NO covenant because the Law ended in AD70 when Jerusalem was destroyed.

Jesus was supposed to return with a New Jerusalem on earth but it did not happen.

This shows that the Old and New Covenant ended when the Law ended in AD70.

Today God has NO covenants with anyone because Israel failed to obey the law of Christ of faith and loving one another (1 John 3 ” 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. “)

Therefore ALL the covenants ended.

The New Covenant was only made with the OId Covenant world (Jew and Gentile) who had broken the law.

Today the law does not exist. There is no Jew or Gentile today.

Sin does not exist because there is no law.

Romans 4:15 “Where there is no law, there is no sin”

There is no new covenant today because there is no sin or law.

Today the world is not sinning or breaking the law.

Jesus removed the law and removed all sins. The world does not have a sin problem.

The world has a death problem. The world needs eternal life.

The Gospel today is not about a new covenant because we were never under the old covenant.

The Gospel today is about eternal life / resurrection. We all die and want to live forever with God.

Jesus Christ died and rose again as the Son of God.

Everyone who believes in Jesus receives eternal life.

John 3:16.
