Perfect righteousness was needed for immortality.

Perfect righteousness was needed for immortality.

According to the Bible story, sin caused death.
So then how can one receive immortality?
It is by righteousness and perfection.

Jesus said this here:

Matthew 5 “20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.”

What kind of righteousness was required to be immortal ?
It is not possible with human effort.
It is God’s righteousness, that is perfectly able to keep the law.

Matthew 5 “43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven……48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

None of this was possible in the flesh. That is why nobody could become perfect by the flesh/human effort.
Only Jesus could do this. He loved God and people radically without sinning. Even until death on the cross, He did not sin.

That is why Jesus rose from the dead – because He did not sin.

He made the New covenant to forgive past sins and then give the believer the power of the Holy Spirit so that they could be perfect by getting rid of all present and future sins.

Romans 8 ” Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death…..in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

The believer had the power to stop sinning, follow Jesus, carry the cross, love one other like Jesus and be PERFECT because they had the great hope of the 2nd coming to be resurrected and glorified like Jesus.

1 John 3 “2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.”

2 Peter 1 “3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. 10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

If they disobeyed then they would not be saved.

2 Peter 3 “14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. …. 17 Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Romans 8 “12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.”

They had to get rid of all sin to be found holy and blameless at the coming of Christ because He was going to judge their works in their lifetime.

Matthew 16 ” 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done. 28 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

Revelation 22 “12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End……

Revelation 21 “7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death…. 26 The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. 27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”

You see that nobody who sins would be allowed into the kingdom of God on earth at Christ’s 2nd coming.

This is why they had to follow Jesus and become perfect by the grace of the Holy Spirit.
If they became perfect then Jesus would come back and resurrect them to inherit the kingdom and send everyone else to hell.

Ask yourself this question: why are Christians not able to be perfect for 2000 years?
Nobody has the Holy Spirit. Nobody is following Jesus.
Jesus never came back in the 1st century.

What is the conclusion?
The Bible is over. It was Israel’s religious story.
Jesus and God never wanted to judge anyone.
God is unconditional love.
There is no hell, no 2nd coming, no judgment.
Nobody can become perfect.
The perfect God will never judge imperfect people.
