Why did Jesus tell people to not judge others but to love their enemies?
Matthew 7 ““Do not judge…. “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
Luke 6 “32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?….35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”
You see that Jesus is revealing a hidden message.
Jesus said that they should imitate God by not judging others but loving their enemies.
It is because God is not a judge but He loves everyone unconditionally.
How can God tell people to not judge others and love their enemies if He does the opposite?
It is impossible for God to break His own law!
It is impossible for God to contradict His own nature of love and mercy.
The love of God can never judge anyone. God will never send His enemies to hell.
1 Corinthians 13 “Love keeps no record of wrongs”
This is why Jesus did not judge the world in AD70.
This is why Jesus will never judge the world in the future.
The reason God gave all those warnings of judgment in the Bible was to show the world and especially the Church to remove our pride of self-righteousness.
The Israelites saw themselves as God’s chosen people who kept the law but the Jews were no better than the Gentiles. In the end, there was no difference between Jew and Gentiles. Both of them had broken the law.
Christians today see ourselves as God’s chosen people who believe in Jesus while others go to hell. But the truth is that no believers are following Jesus and nobody has become perfect as He commanded. You see there is no difference between “believers” and unbelievers. Nobody follows Jesus today!
If God were to judge the world, then it would be based on the perfect standard of the law and everyone would go to hell.
The truth is that God is not the judge but our loving Father.
This is why God will not judge the world!
The Bible is an allegorical story telling us that man should not judge others because God does not judge anyone.
Nobody is perfect, but God loves us unconditionally.
A perfect God does not judge imperfect people.
God is perfect love. He loves all people unconditionally.
He revealed His unconditional love to the world through His Son, Jesus Christ.
The Pharisees at one time, wanted to judge a sinner based on the law, but Jesus said this:
John 8 “3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees…said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?”….But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” …..those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared.”
See the irony here: the people were trying to judge the sinner based on the law. But Jesus was writing on the ground with the same finger that carved out the Ten Commandments on Mt.Sinai. The people wanted judgment but what did Jesus do? The One who gave the Law did not condemn her. He is God who did not sin and yet He did not judge her.
The unconditional love God was revealed through Jesus.
Instead of judging us, He died on the cross and forgave the entire world.
He rose from the dead telling us that God sees all of us as righteous children of God.
On the cross, Jesus said this to the entire world: “You are forgiven”.
There is no judgment. God loves you unconditionally.
Believe the good news!
