Jesus preached the fulfillment of the law:
Matthew 5 “17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. “
Jesus preached salvation by faith in Him.
Mark 16 “15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”
Matthew 28 “19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
Faith in Jesus had to fulfill the law by obedience to the commandment of Jesus: (loving God radically, loving people radically, selling everything, carrying the cross)
Paul preached the same salvation by faith that fulfilled the law.
Romans 10 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Romans 13 “8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.”
Romans 8 “4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit……12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.”
Paul, James, Peter, John preached the same gospel of faith that required works of fulfilling the law by following Jesus and obeying His commands.
1 Corinthians 15 “By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8 and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. 9 For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11 Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.”
The Biblical faith required the obedience to commandments of Jesus of loving one another, carrying the cross, following Jesus, enduring tribulation till the end.
The great tribulation was in AD66-70.
This Gospel commission ended in AD70 when the Bible and apostles ended.
The Bible was Israel’s story of the Law and how Jesus showed that nobody kept the law, not even the 1st Century Church.
The Law ended.
The Biblical faith ended.
The tribulation ended.
All things written in the Law and prophets were fulfilled in AD70.
Luke 21 “20 “When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. 22 For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written.”
Today we are not saved by our faith because nobody has the perfect faith that Jesus commanded or showed Himself.
Nobody can follow Jesus…He alone had the Biblical faith because He is the author and perfector of that radical faith.
The Bible is the story of Israel and Jesus.
Israel failed to keep the law, they failed to have faith.
Jesus alone fulfilled the law by His faith and obedience on the cross.
He alone carried the cross. He alone endured to the end.
He alone did all the work.
If faith was required today then we have to follow Jesus, carry the cross, obey the law, etc….
But the Law does not exist today because the Bible was fulfilled.
The reason it all ended was because nobody is capable of following Jesus or fulfilling the law.
Not even the 1st Century church could do so.
Just see the book of Revelation and Paul’s epistles how we see the state of the Church of constant failure.
Jesus gave all those requirements to show the world and the Church that nobody can have this perfect Biblical faith.
Jesus alone had the perfect Biblical faith, with the perfect love, perfect obedience, perfect righteousness.
This is why we are saved by the grace of God, whom Jesus chooses by His faith, His obedience on the cross and His fulfillment and removal of the law.
