The Biblical faith ended in AD70.
We are now saved by the faith of Jesus.
What was the Biblical faith? This faith was about fulfilling the law.
This faith always has works of obedience to God’s covenant.
– Abraham was commanded to leave his land by faith.
– His faith was tested when commanded to sacrifice Isaac.
– He was commanded to be circumcised by faith.
– Israel was commanded to keep the passover by faith, to obey the ten commandments by faith.
But they failed. In Hebrews 8, God said that He would make a New Covenant because Israel was not faithful – this means that they did not have faith. In Hebrews 4, it says that they did not enter the promised land because of unbelief. Well, if we read the old testament, we see that they perished because of breaking the ten commandments.
You see that faithfulness is about obedience.
Being faithless is about not believing by not obeying.
This is why Jesus is the finisher of faith – His faithfulness was about carrying the cross and fulfilling the law.
He commanded His disciples to carry the cross and fulfill the law – to follow Jesus – this was the Biblical faith.
The Biblical faith demanded perfection in two ways:
– Faith without doubting (perfect faith)
– Be perfect as Jesus in fulfilling the law, carrying the cross, enduring till the end of that generation (perfect obedience)
They did this until the destruction of Jerusalem in AD70 when ALL things were fulfilled in the Law and prophets.
The Law came to an end during the tribulation of AD66-70.
The commandments and Biblical faith ended.
The Apostles ended.
The Bible ended.
Today there is no gospel commission or apostles.
There are no scriptures directly written to us.
We live in the world of grace where Jesus saves people by His faith.
The faith of Jesus is His faithfulness.
through the death and resurrection of Jesus.
We are faithless because we are not following Jesus or carrying the cross, enduring to the end, or fulfilling the law.
“If we are faithless then He is Faithful”
Jesus Christ did ALL of that for us.
He was full of faith and therefore He alone is faithful.
This is why we are saved by the faith of Jesus and not our faith.
This is why we read the Bible to see the finished work of Jesus – His faithfulness in death and resurrection that saves us, and not our faithless attempts at following Jesus or fulfilling the law.
The Law and prophets were fulfilled in the finished work of Jesus on the cross, and it was removed in AD70 within the last generation of the Bible.
The Law does not exist today. Therefore the Biblical faith ended
and today we are saved by the faith of Jesus.
We are not called to follow Jesus or carry the cross but simply relax in the finished work of Jesus, to rest in HIS FAITH.
We are saved by the faithfulness / faith of Jesus
What is the faith of Jesus?
It is the finished work on the cross.
Hebrews 12 “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. “
Jesus is beginner and perfecter of the faith.
His faith was about dying on the cross and being raised from the dead.
The faith was all about what Jesus did and not what we do!
You see if you need your faith, then you need to do what Jesus did!
Jesus fulfilled the law by His perfect love and sinless life that ended with death on the cross and resurrection.
That is why Jesus commanded disciples to follow Him in loving others as He loved, to be perfect as the Father, to carry the cross and die as martyrs like He did.
It was because they also were commanded to fulfill the law.
But nobody can do it. This is why only Jesus fulfilled the law.
This is why we are saved by the faith of Jesus.
Revelation 1 “17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”
Jesus is the alpha and omega (beginning and end), the author and perfector of the faith – It’s all about His faith.
His faith overcame the cross and defeated death.
His faith took away all suffering and sin on the cross to give us His righteousness and all prosperity.
Galatians 2 “19 “For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith OF the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
You see this is why we are not following Jesus or carrying the cross or keeping the law.
The law ended in AD70, it does not exist anymore.
Jesus finished the work.
We died with Christ once…all our sins have been forgiven.
We are now alive with Christ, seated with Him in His Righteousness.
The life we live is by the FAITH of JESUS…by HIS FAITHFULNESS…HIS LOVE for us on the cross.
We live by resting in the finished work of Jesus – i.e. resting in the Faith of Jesus that carried the cross and suffered for us so that we enjoy all blessings in Him freely by grace.
