Most Christians think that they are saved by their faith based on the Bible.
But the Biblical faith was about following Jesus and becoming like Him, walking just like Jesus.
Jesus fulfilled the law.
Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”
Believers were supposed to fulfill the law and walk like Jesus.
Romans 13 “10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law….clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ,”
James 2 “My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism……8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right. 9 But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers.”
John 13 “34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.””
1 John 2 “4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.”
1 John 3 “We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands.”
James 2 “Faith without works (fulfilling the law like Jesus) is dead”
Believers were commanded to die as martyrs just like Jesus.
They had to overcome just like Jesus.
Luke 14 “And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.”
Matthew 16 “24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? “
Revelation 3 “21 To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. “
Believers were commanded to live holy lives just like Jesus otherwise they would not be saved.
Galatians 6 “7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
Romans 8 “12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.”
1 Thessalonians 4 “3 It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; …. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. 7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 8 Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.”
Hebrews 12 “14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16 See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. “
Hebrews 13 “4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have,”
All of these writings were to the 1st Century people, who lived in the last generation of the law.
This is why their faith was required to fulfill the law.
Their faith was required to follow Jesus and carry the cross.
Both Paul, James, John and Jesus all preached the same thing.
The grace given to them was the power of the Holy Spirit so that they could follow Jesus and fulfill the law, dying as martyrs.
Act 14:22 ” “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.”
The Law passed away when Jerusalem was destroyed in AD70.
The scriptures came to an end.
Today the law does not exist.
God is not asking us to become like Jesus or follow Him or carry the cross.
This is the reason there are no scriptures written to us.
We are saved by the Faith of Jesus, not our faith.
If it was your faith, then you need to carry the cross, walk like Jesus, and fulfill the law in all holiness.
We are saved by the GRACE of Jesus.
It is not our faith. It is God’s Grace in choosing whom He has compassion.
We are saved by the finished work of Jesus who came to fulfill and remove the law.
