Faith is the work of God:
John 6 “29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.””
Faith is not something we try to initiate or maintain or endure to be saved in the end.
If faith is our effort, then we have to endure trials and even death to be saved…and we can lose salvation when we stop believing for whatever reason.
But if faith is God’s work in us, then we can never lose salvation.
It is God who begins and completes the work !
Philippians 1 “6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
It’s not as if you began the good work by your faith and then God completes it.
It’s not as if God begins it and you complete it by your faith.
It’s God who begins and completes it.
Therefore the faith is provided by God.
Paul was the example of our salvation.
1 Timothy 1 “12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. 13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. “
We see these truths:
– Jesus gave Paul strength because Paul had nothing.
– Jesus appointed/chose Paul. (he did not choose Jesus)
– Paul was going to kill more Christians and Jesus appeared to Paul and gave him Grace, Faith and love.
(Paul had no intention of believing in Jesus. Paul’s will was to be an unbeliever but God’s will was for him to be a believer. God made him believe!)
– the grace is Jesus
– the faith is Jesus. It is the faith of Jesus.
– the love is Jesus.
– Nothing was provided by Paul.
– God did all the work.
To God and Jesus be all the glory.
They give us faith to be saved.
He who begins the work, completes it.
Faith, Grace is all from Jesus.
1 Timothy 1 “17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
