The evidence of salvation is not good works.
The evidence of salvation is your faith – it is your confession of Jesus (the righteousness by faith and not works)
Romans 10 “4 Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. 5 Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: “The person who does these things will live by them.” 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says:…. If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. “
Many Christians think that believing in Jesus means to go to Church, do good works, read the Bible, tithe, repent, confess sins, etc…they think that “faith” is all about works.
They think that all those works are evidence of faith.
But works can never be evidence of salvation.
This is because even Muslims repent, confess sins, do good works, help the poor, go to Mosque! Even Sikhs and Hindus do more good works than Christians!
Some Christians also try to do good works to attain salvation just like these unbelievers!
Muslims follow the Quran, while Jews follow the Torah, and Christians follow the Bible. But very few know Jesus personally and few boast in His grace. Many believers rarely take about what Jesus has done but always focus on their sins and works.
These “believers” have no personal revelation of Jesus or even know His love.
But they know the Bible and Church traditions.
When you teach Grace to them, then they will say “works” and “faith plus works”.
They give more importance to the Bible than the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.
You see, they don’t understand that Jesus ENDED ALL works.
The Law is all about righteousness by repentance, works, confession, going to the Temple, etc…
But GRACE is all about Jesus who died on the cross and rose from the dead to END ALL WORKS.
We confess Jesus as Lord because we trust that He did everything.
It’s not about trying to do works in the Bible to be saved.
It’s about believing and knowing Jesus who did everything to make us righteous without works.
I have rarely met Christians who say that Jesus made them righteous without works.
They all add works, repentance, efforts. It is all about their works of the Law.
They are making their faith null and void because the Law is the opposite of faith.
Works is the opposite of faith.
Galatians 3 “10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” 11 Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.” 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.””
They make Christ’s work useless.
Do they know Jesus? Does Jesus know them? God only knows the heart.
The Grace of Jesus ended the law and all works!
When I teach the Gospel of Grace by faith in Jesus and not works, then there are two usual responses:
1. Faith without works is dead quoting James. But how many works do you need to prove faith? If you need works to have faith, then you need to keep the law to be saved because only the law determines the number of works! So then they are preaching salvation by faith and works, which is a works-based salvation.
2. Our works will be judged for rewards: But what standard are these works being judged? They say it is the Law.
So you see in both cases, they are holding on to the Law.
But if you depend on works, then you need to be fully under the law.
The good news is that the law does not even exist today.
The law ended on the cross so that grace came through Jesus.
The law was destroyed in AD70 when Jerusalem and the temple was destroyed.
No law = no works.
Romans 4 “13 It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith. 14 For if those who depend on the law are heirs, faith means nothing and the promise is worthless, 15 because the law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression. 16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring”
Galatians 3 “26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith…. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
Today only grace through faith in Jesus without any works.
The evidence of Law is works.
The evidence of Grace is faith without works!
The only work that saves us is the finished work of Jesus by His death and resurrection.
If your faith needs your own works, then you have to be perfect like Jesus and then copy His death and resurrection. It’s impossible.
This is why we are perfect and righteous by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, received by faith without our works!
Jesus became sin to give us His perfect sinless righteousness!
The believer is sinless and righteous without doing a single work!
Those who truly know Jesus will boast in His grace and His righteousness.
He made us righteous without works.
We didn’t choose Him but He chose us.
We didn’t believe in Him because of our great will-power and effort but because He chose us and opened our eyes.
This is the Grace of God that no man can boast.
