Many believers think that they need to confess their existing sins, repent to be saved, or that they’ll lose salvation or that God disciplines them for present/future sin, etc.
But we need to understand what exactly Jesus accomplished on the cross?
When God made the New Covenant through the blood of Jesus, He made this statement:
Hebrews 10 “17 Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” 18 And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.””
What sins are He talking about? Is it future sins?
The answer is no – it was past sins, but not our past sins.
God made a New Covenant to forget the “past sins” under the Old Covenant.
The Law reminded God of sins.
Therefore God removed the sins on the cross when the Law ended.
Hebrews 9 “15 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant….But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.”
Jesus died for sins committed under the old covenant.
Jesus died at the end of the age (Mosaic age of Law)
Jesus put away all sin on the cross.
How did Jesus do that?
Jesus made us PERFECTLY HOLY and SINLESS by His blood that removed the Law (First covenant) and brought Grace (New Covenant)
Hebrews 10 “9 Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first (old covenant) to establish the second (new covenant). 10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all…..14 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are made holy”
Past sins = sins done under the Law
Law ended on the cross
Sin ended on the cross ( No Law = no sin = Guaranteed Grace)
Romans 4 “15 because the law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression. 16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed”
Grace has no sins – no present or future sins.
The Law ended on the cross and disappeared in AD70.
Hebrews 8:13 “By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.”
The entire world has been made sinless and perfect by the blood of Jesus.
Everyone who believes in Christ receives this sinless righteousness from God, as a free gift – the forgiveness of sins, made holy and perfect by the blood of Jesus !
