Unfortunately many Christians think that the Law still exists today.
But it has been 2000 years since Jesus died on the cross to make a New Covenant.
The Law ended on the cross when Jesus forgave all our sins to make a New Covenant.
The Old Covenant vanished away in the 1st century.
Hebrews 8:13 “By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.”
The Old Covenant was not just the ceremonial laws but it was the 10 commandments as well.
Exodus 34:27-28,34 “27 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” 28 Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant—the Ten Commandments……As the Lord commanded Moses, Aaron put the manna with the tablets of the covenant law, so that it might be preserved.”
The Law was fully removed from the face of the earth when Jerusalem was destroyed in AD70.
It’s because the old covenant corresponded to the city of Jerusalem on earth.
Galatians 4 “24 These things are being taken figuratively: The women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar. 25 Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. 26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother. “
When Jesus died on the cross, the veil in the Jerusalem temple was torn, signifying the end of the Law. But the 40-year period from the Cross (AD30) till Jerusalem was destroyed in AD70 was the last generation of the law when it was fully removed.
Today, the Law does not exist. We live in the New Covenant world, where we come to Jesus in the New Jerusalem (from heaven) by faith because His blood has made us perfect.
Hebrews 12 “18 You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; 19 to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, 20 because they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.” 21 The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.” 22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.”
The blood of Jesus has forgiven you all sin. He has made you perfect by His one sacrifice on the cross that removed the law.
Hebrews 10 “9 Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the old covenant to establish the new covenant. 10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
Believe in Jesus, to receive the forgiveness of sins in the New Covenant of Grace!
