What is Salvation?

First of all let us understand why we need salvation.

Romans 5 “12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned”

God created Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden and gave them His Spirit (breath of life). They were spiritually alive, knowing God, and were not sinners.

But Adam sinned and died spiritually on the same day. The spirit of God left Adam.

Every human being is spiritually dead because we all sin like Adam. We don’t know God and don’t have eternal life.

The problem of spiritual death was caused by sin.

Therefore God has to take away our sins before He can give us eternal life.

God in His great love and mercy sent His Son Jesus Christ to the earth to live a sinless life, die on the cross for our sins, and be raised from the dead.

The death of Jesus Christ took away the sins of the world. He forgave all our sins.

If even one sin is remaining then Jesus cannot rise from the dead.

He rose from the dead because all sins were taken away to give us eternal life.

John 1:29 “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Hebrews 9 “Jesus has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.”

There are no more sins to be forgiven because Jesus already died on the cross and rose again. God is not counting the sins of the world !!

2 Corinthians 5 “17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

All we have to do is believe in Jesus to receive salvation / eternal life.

If a person does not believe in Jesus, they remain spiritually dead.

When we believe in Jesus this is what happens: We are made ALIVE forever. We have God’s Righteousness forever.

Ephesians 2 “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Colossians 2 “13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.”

We receive the Forgiveness of sins by faith. Our sins are never counted anymore. We are made alive by receiving the Holy Spirit. The only reason we receive the Spirit of God is because all our sins are forgiven. This means that our sins have been taken away and we are righteous, holy, and perfect like Jesus.

Ephesians 1 “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace….13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.”

We received the eternal life of God because He has made us righteous by grace.

The Holy Spirit is the deposit / guarantee of the inheritance of the resurrection of our bodies.

When Jesus returns He will give us the inheritance of immortal bodies. We will be blameless in body, soul, and spirit. Jesus is faithful and He will do this at the 2nd coming.

1 Thessalonians 5 “23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.”

Philippians 3 “20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”

The believer is not in sin anymore. We are in Christ because of Christ’s death and resurrection.

1 Corinthians 15 “By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures……if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins….20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.”

The reason the believer is not in sin anymore is because Jesus died and rose again.

The believer cannot die anymore because we don’t have any sin anymore. The Spirit of God will never leave us because we are forgiven and righteous.

Jesus took sins away on the cross and rose again.

The believer is already saved – having the LIFE of Christ in us – this is eternal life – immortality.

The believer is spiritually alive and cannot die anymore. There is no more sin in the believer.

When Jesus returns, physical death will be abolished and we will be glorified with immortal bodies.
