Jesus preached the Law to Israel to show them that they cannot be saved by the Ten Commandments!

Matthew 19 “16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” 17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” he inquired. Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’””

The rich Jewish man asked Jesus “what GOOD THING MUST I DO to have eternal life?”Why didn’t Jesus say “Believe in me”?It is because the person was trusting in his works.This is why Jesus told him to keep the Ten Commandments.The man was confident that he obeyed the law.

Matthew 19 “20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

But Jesus showed him that he was not perfect according to the Law. Remember that Jesus said that the Law demanded a person to Love God with ALL their heart, soul, and strength. Jesus also said that you cannot love God and money at the same time.Jesus proved that this man cannot keep the law.The only one who kept the Law was Jesus Himself. He loved God with ALL his heart, He gave up everything for others and loved others perfectly. He carried the cross.This is why Jesus commanded the man to follow Jesus, to become perfect as God to be saved.But the man went away sad because he could not obey the law.

Matthew 19 “22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” 25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” 26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”“

This is why Jesus said it is IMPOSSIBLE for man to be saved by the Law.The purpose of the Law is not to save anyone, but to show people that they cannot save themselves.This is why Jesus came to die on the cross because we cannot be saved by good deeds.To make salvation possible by GOD’s GRACE through FAITH

This is why Salvation is by FAITH alone and not by the law.

Mark 16 “15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever BELIEVES and is baptized will be SAVED, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. “

John 5 ““Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and BELIEVES him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.”

John 6 “Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to BELIEVE in the one he has sent.””

John 6 “Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever BELIEVES in me will never be thirsty.”

John 6 “For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and BELIEVES in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.””

John 11 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who BELIEVES in me will live, even though they die;”

John 20 “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by BELIEVING you may have life in his name.”
