Some Law-believers will quote this verse thinking that you need to keep the law to be saved.
ROMANS 2 “13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.”
This is because they don’t read the full epistle of Romans but just look for verses to support their self-righteousness of trusting in the works of the law.
Paul was telling people that if they trust in the law then they have to do everything in the law to be righteous.
Paul warned the Galatians to NOT MIX LAW with FAITH.
GALATIANS 3 “You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. 2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? 3 Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh? 4 Have you experienced so much in vain—if it really was in vain? 5 So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard? 6 So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.””
If you mix Law with Faith…then Christ will be of NO USE to YOU.
GALATIANS 5 “Christ will be of no use to you….. 4 You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.”
Why is that? It is because NOBODY IS RIGHTEOUS under the LAW…not Jew or Gentile.. ALL ARE GUILTY.
ROMANS 3 “Not at all! For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin. 10 As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one“
It is because the LAW was NOT meant to save anyone but to show that you are SINNERS and that NOBODY CAN BE JUSTIFIED by the LAW.
ROMANS 3 “19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.”
That is exactly what Jesus did to the Jews. He preached the Law to Israel showing them that they cannot be righteous by the law. After His DEATH and RESURRECTION,….NOW the Righteousness of God is given to ALL who BELIEVE in Jesus…..APART from the LAW.
ROMANS 3 “21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith.”
