Babylon of Revelation was Old Covenant Jerusalem in AD70
Revelation 17 ” I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus…..18 The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.”Revelation 18 “By your magic spell all the nations were led astray.24 In her was found the blood of prophets and of God’s holy people, of all who have been slaughtered on the earth.””
Babylon is not a city in our future. It is not the Catholic Church or the United nations or New York or Dubai or Rome or Saudi Arabia or Iraq or Russia or China.
It was something relevant to people in the time of John the apostle who wrote the book of Revelation.
This is a city that ruled over the earth in those days by killing the people of God.
Who did Jesus say was guilty of killing the old testament prophets and the new testament believers? It was the Pharisees and Jews of the Old Covenant
Matthew 23 “29 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous. 30 And you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ 31 So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets. 32 Go ahead, then, and complete what your ancestors started! 33 “You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? 34 Therefore I am sending you prophets and sages and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town. 35 And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36 Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation. 37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. 38 Look, your house is left to you desolate.”
The city of Babylon was JERUSALEM.
Isaiah said the same:
Isaiah 1 “The vision concerning Judah and Jerusalem ….See how the faithful city has become a prostitute!”
Revelation 17 “The name written on her forehead was a mystery: babylon the great the mother of prostitutes and of the abominations of the earth.”
The old covenant was the deception that was deceiving the whole world.
Galatians 3 “You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you?”
What was the adultery? It was to cheat on Jesus and go back to the Law.
Romans 7 “Do you not know, brothers and sisters—for I am speaking to those who know the law—that the law has authority over someone only as long as that person lives? 2 For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him. 3 So then, if she has sexual relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress.”
Jerusalem was supposed to be married to Jesus in the new covenant. But she committed adultery by trusting in the Law and crucifying Jesus, killing the prophets and the apostles.
She was guilty of ALL the blood from Abel till the 1st century.
The beast was the Jewish zealot kings who overthrew Jerusalem in AD66 and for 3.5 years killed many people in Jerusalem.
They enforced the mark of the beast and killed all those who did not submit to them.Babylon was filled with demons just like Jesus prophesied upon Jerusalem.
Revelation 18 ““‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!’ She has become a dwelling for demons”
Matthew 12 “Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with THIS wicked GENERATION.””
The beast of Revelation destroyed Babylon (Jerusalem) by fire (Revelation 17:16) in AD66-70.
Revelation 21 “Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.”
Revelation 22 “17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.”
