Jesus restored us from Adam’s sin
When Adam and Eve sinned, they died spiritually on the same day. This means that they were banished from the presence of God. They were not allowed to eat the tree of life to be with God anymore. This is the meaning of spiritual death – to be separated from God, who is Spirit.
Under the Old Covenant law, no man could enter the presence of God. This was depicted by the Temple of earthly Jerusalem. The most holy place was God’s presence. No man could enter except the High Priest with blood only once a year. This is because the Law separated man from God because of sins.
But then Jesus Christ came and never sinned. He was separated from God’s presence on the cross, tasting death (Separation)
Matthew 27 “about three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” ).”
Then after He tasted all our spiritual death/separation and consumed it on the cross, He said IT IS FINISHED. He became the true high priest who entered God’s presence on our behalf. He rose from the dead and the Law ended in AD70 when the Temple was destroyed.Jesus now restores all people back to the presence of God when we believe in Christ.
Revelation 21 “2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
This is the New Covenant – New Jerusalem (spiritual Jerusalem), where God dwells with you and in you through faith in Jesus Christ. He will never leave or forsake you because your sins are forgiven by grace through faith in Christ. We have access to God and the tree of life to have eternal life by faith in Christ in this New Covenant.
Revelation 22 “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.”
When Adam sinned, he could not eat from the tree. But now, all who have sinned can come and eat from the tree of life by faith in Christ. Once we have faith in Christ, we cannot die anymore – we have eternal spiritual life. Even if we physically die, we will live forever in His presence.
John 11 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;”
