The Apostles still believed in the law because they lived in the last days of Israel.
We know that Paul preached Grace but do you know that he still enforced certain aspects of the law:
He did not allow women to preach because of the law.
1 Corinthians 14:34 “Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says.”
Today we know that there is nothing wrong with women being preachers. This is because the law ended in the 1st Century.
He also wanted women covering their heads in Church while praying/prophesying because of the angels who gave the law (Galatians 3:19, Acts 7:53).
1 Corinthians 11:5,10 “But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved. …It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own head, because of the angels.”
Today there is nothing wrong with women praying without covering their head because the Law passed away. The Apostles (James and Paul) also commanded some laws to believers.
Acts 15 “20 but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from things strangled, and from blood. 21 For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath.”……25 it seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also report the same things by word of mouth. 28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: 29 that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well.”
Why were the Gentile believers under these laws?
It is because the Law of Moses was preached for many generations by the Jews in the Gentile cities. The law still existed in those days.
They were not required to keep the 613 commandments but only a few commandments of the law.Of course, sexual immorality is not good even today – even unbelievers know that without knowing the Law of Moses. But what about eating certain foods? Today we know that we can eat any foods without any restriction because the law ended in the 1st Century.
Hebrews 8:13 “13 By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.”
Matthew 24 “Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2 “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”…..34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.”
When the Temple was destroyed, there is no more law. There is no more law being preached for 1900 years. That is why there are no more scriptures being written after the 1st Century.
The Apostles ended in the 1st century because the law of Israel ended.
Today we live in the AGE of GRACE where there is no more law.
The world is not being guided by Israel’s law but by the GRACE of Jesus Christ.
Revelation 22 “17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.”
The nations are being called to take the FREE GIFT of salvation by faith in Christ for the last 1900 years.
