Jesus came to fulfill (obey) the law for Israel to give salvation to the world.
No other nation had the 613 commandments except Israel under the law of Moses (Psalm 147:19-20).
This is why Jesus did not send any apostles to the Gentiles before the cross because He was teaching the law in all His teachings before He died.
Matthew 10:5-6 “These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: “Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
The Gentiles were outside the covenant, without God (Ephesians 2:11-13) and not under the law.
For 1500 years, there was not even one Jew who obeyed all the 613 commandments in heart, word, or deed.
When Jesus, came He fulfilled the law by being the only man who obeyed it – because He is God in the flesh. Only God could fulfill the law. He preached the Sermon on the Mount which was the fulfillment of the law of Israel (not given to any Gentiles).
Jesus was the only one who obeyed the Sermon on the Mount.
Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill”
He showed Israel the fulfillment of the law – that was not just obeying the 603 + 10 commandments superficially, but the 10 commandments that required moral perfection in heart, word, and, deed – that only Jesus fulfilled by His perfect obedience.
Then, after fulfilling the law of Israel, He died on on the cross to cancel the commandments of the law so that now there is no Jew or Gentile, and all people can be made righteous simply by faith apart from the law.
Ephesians 2:14-16 “For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.”
Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Gentile.”
Romans 3:21-22,25 “But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe…. being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith”
We are not called to fulfill the law because Jesus already did it for the Jews so that all nations can come to God to receive the abundance of Grace and the Gift of His Righteousness without lifting a finger….only simply believe in Jesus.
