Jesus Christ did what we could not do so that we receive His righteousness by faith without doing anything.
Romans 4:4,24-25
“But to him who doesn’t work, but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness. …..
who believe in him who raised Jesus, our Lord, from the dead who was delivered up for our sins, and was raised to make us righteous.”
We cannot rely on our entire lifetime of works.
Some folks rely on the 10 commandments.
But nobody really keeps the sabbath.
Some folks say we need to fulfill the law.
Well, there are 613 commandments of the law of Moses.
Nobody is keeping all those laws.
Even the Jews were unable.
Nobody is loving God with “all” their heart, soul, strength and loving others as themselves.
Some folks try to relate to God based on the sermon on the mount.
That was an impossible standard.
In that sermon under the law, Jesus said to abstain from lust, greed, boasting, anger, cut off body parts that sinned, love enemies, forgiving others infinitely – to be perfect like God to enter the kingdom (Matthew 5-7).
Nobody can obey all of that.
Nobody does the work of forsaking everything, carrying the cross, selling everything to the poor like Jesus commanded in Luke 12, Luke 14 under the law.
You see, nobody is righteous by their works because nobody can do everything in the Bible.
In our works, we fall short of God’s perfection.
The only one who obeyed everything in the law with moral perfection and sacrificial love is Jesus Christ.
Jesus did what we could not do.His death and resurrection is the only work that saves us.
Our entire lifetime of works cannot compare to Christ’s death and resurrection.
He died to take away our sins.
He rose from the dead to make us righteous. So what do we do?
We stop trying and we believe in Jesus to be made righteous without our works.
We receive HIS GRACE by trusting in what Jesus did.
