On the Cross: Jesus made the believer Perfect without our works!
Before the cross, under the law, Jesus told them they had to be perfect as God Himself to enter the kingdom.
Matthew 5:20, 48 “For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way you will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven….Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.”
Jesus was using the law to show them they could not be righteous by their works. It was impossible for them.
The truth is that nobody was perfect under the law, except Jesus Himself who never sinned but loved everyone perfectly.
He lived the perfect life on our behalf.
He then died on the cross on our behalf to take all our sins upon Him.
He forgave all our sins.
He rose from the dead because He made us PERFECT by His one sacrifice on the cross.
Hebrews 10:9-14 “then he has said, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He takes away the first, that he may establish the second, by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all… For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are sanctified.“
Jesus became sin on the cross so that the believer is the Righteousness of God.
2nd Corinthians 5:21 “For Jesus who knew no sin God made to be sin on our behalf; so that in Jesus we might become the righteousness of God.”
What Great love that Jesus gave us everything He has freely as a gift by grace through faith.
