Saved through the fire – Is everyone going to be saved ?
Will God eventually save all human beings after they go through the fire?
1 Corinthians 3 “14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.”
Paul is not talking about unbelievers. But he is talking about the ministry of believers. The believer will be saved by grace through faith apart from our works. But there is a judgment of works. The works are judged but not for salvation. Paul clearly explains here that the believer who sins is chastised but will be saved eventually ….. unlike the unbeliever who is condemned.
1 Corinthians 11 “29 For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. 30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. 31 But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment. 32 Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world.“
Christ and all the Apostles are unanimous – the righteous shall be saved by grace through faith. But the unrighteous will be condemned.
John 3 “16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.“
Matthew 25 “46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
Revelation is even more clear:
Revelation 21 “6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
There is no compromise on the Gospel.
If you believe in Jesus Christ, then you will receive immortality and glory in the future new heaven and earth.
But if you reject Christ, then there is no more sacrifice for sins but only a raging fire of judgment.
Hebrews 10 “26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. 28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” 31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
If God’s raging fire of judgment is only a “purification” or “restoring” fire, then surely there is no need for the Apostles to have preached the Gospel with great risk to their lives !!
They could have just told people…. “It’s ok if you don’t believe, but one day you will believe after going through the lake of fire”.
Why bother preaching if everyone will eventually be saved ?
There is a reason God has not yet ended the world. It’s because He does not want anyone to perish – He is patiently giving everyone a chance to be saved because there is no 2nd chance after death.
2nd Peter 3 ” 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. 8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.“
There’s a reason the lake of fire is called the 2nd death: It’s because the resurrected body of the unbeliever is destroyed eternally. There is no coming back after the judgment. This is why we must believe in Christ in this life to be saved.
There are no 2nd chances after death.
Hebrews 9 “27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.”
Hebrews 12 “15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16 See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. 17 Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears, he could not change what he had done.”
We should not reject the Grace of God in Christ.
There is no grace or love in the lake of fire.
There is no mercy for the unbeliever after death.
Everyone who believes in Christ will be saved and live eternally with God.
But those who reject Christ will perish in the lake of fire – with no chance of repentance.
If you preach that everyone will be saved eventually, then it gives the unbeliever the false assurance that he will eventually be saved and not need to believe in Jesus in this life. That is a disastrous consequence of the loss of his salvation !! It is a false teaching and a false gospel.
Universal salvation is a FALSE gospel – because if unbelievers are eventually going to be saved, then there is no need to preach the gospel.
The true Gospel is that we must believe in Jesus to be saved. We have to believe it in this life. There are no 2nd chances for salvation after death.
