The world is engrossed with Israel and its land.
Under the law, Israel had a promised land, a Temple, priesthood, sacrifice, etc. But now Christ is the fulfillment of the law.
Romans 10 “4 For Christ is the fulfillment of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.”
Jesus is the true temple of God.
John 2 “19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” 20 The Jews therefore said, “It took forty-six years to build this temple! Will you raise it up in three days?” 21 But he spoke of the temple of his body.”
And we who believe in Christ are one with Him (The Temple).
Ephesians 2 “9 So then you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and of the household of God, 20 being built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief cornerstone; 21 in whom the whole building, fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord; 22 in whom you also are built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit.”
1 Corinthians 6 “But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit…9 Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,“
Jesus is the final sacrifice that fulfilled the law.
Hebrews 10: “12 but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting until his enemies are made the footstool of his feet. 14 For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.”
He is our High Priest (Hebrews 2:17, 3:1, 4:14-15, 6:20, 8:1, 9:11).
Jesus is the true Israel.
Hosea 11:1 “When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.”
Matthew 2:14-15 “He (Joseph) arose and took the young child (JESUS) and his mother by night and departed into Egypt, and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
When Jesus was a child, He was taken to Egypt to avoid the persecution of Herod. But He returned from Egypt to live in Israel and bring salvation to the world, to all who believe in Him – both Jew and Gentile.
The law was a shadow, but the true reality of salvation is found in Christ alone – in Him we are complete, forgiven all sin and made complete by faith in Jesus:
Colossians 2 “9 For in him all the fullness of the Deity dwells bodily, 10 and in him you are made full, who is the head of all principality and power….13 You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. He made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 wiping out the handwriting in ordinances which was against us. He has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross….16 Let no one therefore judge you in eating, or in drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day, 17 which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ’s”
We don’t look for an earthly kingdom in Jerusalem or any other nation. But we look for a heavenly kingdom with Jesus and God.
Philippians 3 “20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from where we also wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will change the body of our humiliation to be conformed to the body of his glory, according to the working by which he is able even to subject all things to himself.”
Revelation 21 “I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth have passed away, and the sea is no more. 2 I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband… 22 I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God, the Almighty, and the Lamb, are its temple. 23 The city has no need for the sun or moon to shine, for the very glory of God illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb.”
In the 1st Century, the people of the world were deceived by the beast and false prophet to establish an earthly kingdom in Jerusalem – they rejected Christ and His offer of the heavenly kingdom. But the Lord judged Israel because of their rejection of Christ. That was the “coming” of the Lord’s judgment on Israel. That was the beginning of the 1000 years.
Today, when a believer dies, he goes to the Lord in heaven and reigns with Him there.
But the Bible says that the same deception of the 1st Century will be repeated. Satan will deceive the nations. The same thing is happening today as we are coming to the end of the 1000 years and looking forward to Christ’s return to judge the entire world.
Revelation 20:7-8 “And after the thousand years, Satan will be released from his prison, and he will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to the war; the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.”
In Revelation 20, it says that Satan will deceive the nations and gather them like the “sand of the sea” from the four corners of the earth. These are references to the nation of Israel being formed out of people of all nations. Israel is referred to as the “sand of the sea” in Isaiah 10:22, Genesis 32:12, Genesis 22:17, etc. Israel is also referred to as the people gathered from the four corners of the earth (Isaiah 11:12, Ezekiel 7:2, Revelation 7:1).
The people of Israel are using the Old Covenant promises of the land to establish their nation. Eventually, they want to build a 3rd Temple and renew the Old Covenant sacrifices with their Messiah ruling from Jerusalem while the Muslims want to establish their religion in Jerusalem. Even some Christians want to fight for Jerusalem.
But all of that is against God’s will because Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law.
All the promises of God are not based on an earthly Jerusalem under the Law but the heavenly Jerusalem by faith in Christ. Jesus is the true Temple; the final sacrifice and He is the New Jerusalem – the body of Christ that consists of Christians from all nations in heaven. The devil is trying to establish a counterfeit kingdom on earth.
Therefore, Satan’s deception is upon the nations who are fighting over the land based on the promises for Abraham’s descendants. They are trying to establish an earthly kingdom being ignorant of the fact that Christ promised a heavenly kingdom.
God’s covenant with Israel does not exist anymore. The law of Moses ended in the 1st Century.
The only covenant that God has is with Jesus Christ. That is the new and everlasting covenant.
We enter the covenant by faith in Christ to receive forgiveness of sins and righteousness by faith.
The true descendants of Abraham are those who believe in Christ.
The true promise of Abraham is the heavenly Jerusalem by faith in Christ.
The true kingdom of God is found in the Church of Jesus Christ in heaven, which will come one day to rule over the new heaven and earth after the final resurrection.
What is God’s will today?
From 1st Timothy 2:1-6, we know that God wants peace in the world and people from all nations to be saved by faith in Christ. There is no special blessing on any specific nation.
The only blessing from God is that we believe in Jesus Christ His Son.
There is no special blessing in supporting Israel or other nations today. Let us support and bless all people, praying for peace in the world. Let us pray that all the nations come to Jesus Christ in faith.
