This is an excerpt from my new book: The Revelation of God’s love through Jesus Christ (The New Covenant Gospel of Grace and the End Times) (Copyright © 2020 by Mathew Simon
Christ came to His own people (Israel) but the majority of them did not believe in Him.
John 1:10-14 “He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own, and those who were his own didn’t receive him. But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name: who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. The Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
But to all people who believe in Jesus Christ, He has given the full glory as Sons and Daughters of God Himself. This was not something that we could attain by our ancestry, blood relations, willpower and good works. It was given to us by God’s will and desire.
No man had seen God before Christ came.
They had only seen the Ten Commandments and many rules that they were unable to keep. But when Christ came, He revealed God Himself – filled with unconditional love and grace. God who would do anything to make you His children – even die on the cross for our sins and make us righteous and perfect as God Himself!
John 1:15-18 “John testified about him. He cried out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me, for he was before me.’” From his fullness we all received grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time. The one and only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, has declared him.”
Christ is God who existed long before people like Moses or John the Baptist.
Moses was a mere man who brought laws and rules with guilt and condemnation.
But when Jesus Christ came, He came from the warm embrace of the Father so that they can embrace you too! The truth of God is not found in righteousness by the Law but is found in the grace and love of Jesus Christ. The Law was mediated by God’s angels who punished every violation (Acts 7:53, Galatians 3:19)
But Grace was given by God’s Son Jesus Christ who took all our punishment.
God does not want to condemn you but wants to make you righteous if you believe in Jesus! This is not just “grace” but it is the fullness of grace upon grace, one after the other – never-ending grace for the believer in this life and in heaven forever!
The believer is part of God’s family. We are God’s beloved children calling Him our “Daddy / Abba / Papa” and Christ is our beloved bridegroom.
If we believe in Christ, then God is not our judge but He is our Father who loves us!
When a person believes in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit comes and lives in our hearts. The same Spirit of Jesus the Son comes into our hearts and we know God as Father.
Galatians 4:6-7 “And because you are children, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!” So you are no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”
We are no longer slaves and outsiders but we are sons of God receiving the same inheritance of Christ having His righteousness and eternal life by grace through faith.
1st John 3:1-3 “See how great a love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him. Beloved, now we are children of God. It is not yet revealed what we will be; but we know that when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is. Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.”
When Christ is revealed at the resurrection, we will receive immortal bodies like Him.
But till then in this world, we are exactly like Jesus in the spirit because His Spirit dwells eternally in the believer.
1st John 4:17 “In this, love has been made perfect among us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as he is, even so we are in this world.”
We have the same intimacy that Jesus enjoys with the Father. God is no longer our judge because our sins were forgiven forever! There is no more fear of judgment because we have the Father’s love for us in our hearts through the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5-8).
John 16:27 “the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came from God”
Look at how much God loves us! We were dead in sin but when we believed in Jesus Christ, He made us alive with Christ having forgiven all sins (Colossians 2:11-15).
The Father not only made us alive but He seated us with Christ in heaven as glorious children of God.
Ephesians 2:4-9 “But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus; for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast.”
A spiritually dead man can do nothing to become alive.
We could do nothing to make ourselves righteous by our works.
Therefore, God in His great love, did all the work for us!
We were spiritually dead in Adam but then God included us in Christ’s death, burial, resurrection and ascension into heaven when we believed.
This is grace – we did nothing but Jesus did everything to save us!
How much does Jesus love you? Look at what He has done for you.
John 1:29 “The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
God took away all our sins on the cross for those who believe in Christ.
When Jesus rose from the dead, He said that God is His Father and our Father too!
John 20:17 “Jesus said to her, “Don’t hold me, for I haven’t yet ascended to my Father; but go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
The Father gave all things to Jesus Christ the Son.
When we come to Jesus in faith, He reveals God as our Father and no longer our judge – this is the truth that sets us free from all burdens.
Matthew 11:25-30 “At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight. All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him. “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Look at the love of Father in what He has done for us in Christ Jesus:
Ephesians 1:2-8 “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and without defect before him in love, having predestined us for adoption as children through Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his desire, to the praise of the glory of his grace, by which he freely gave us favor in the Beloved, in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,”
God our Father & our Lord Jesus Christ send us grace and peace.
Grace means that God saved us through faith without our works.
Peace means that God has taken away our guilt and condemnation by Christ’s blood.
He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ in heaven where we are spiritually seated with Him – having forgiven us all sins.
He did this even before we were born and before the world was created.
God knew that we would believe in Christ and therefore He made us holy and blameless in His sight. He blessed us with every spiritual blessing.
Can you imagine that? We are blessed with everything in Christ and He did this with great pleasure. He did not do it grudgingly but with great happiness and joy!
When people are truly in love, they ignore one another’s flaws that are learned over a long time. God loves us much more because He knew us before we were born and loved us in spite of all our flaws. When we believed, we were made holy and blameless.
God made us His sons through Jesus Christ and we are accepted in the beloved.
God only called one person as His “beloved Son”, when He poured His Holy Spirit on Jesus when He was baptized by John.
Matthew 3:16-17 “Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him. Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
God made us His beloved children in Christ.
We did not choose Him but He chose us and saved us by grace through faith.
What lavish grace that He made us righteous and holy in Christ without us doing a single work! He did not just forgive our past sins but He lavished His riches of grace by forgiving our entire lifetime of past, present and future sins.
This gave Him great joy and pleasure in blessing us His beloved children!
He did not do it out of obligation, but with great pleasure and happiness!
He did not do it stingily, but by lavishly pouring out the riches of His grace.
He gave us Jesus who is our salvation – He gave us Himself!
God is the Father of Christ and our Father too! God does not want employees or servants; He wants you to know that you are His darling son.
John 15:15 “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant doesn’t know what his lord does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you.”
The Father is pleased with you because you are His beloved son or daughter through Jesus Christ. God sees no difference between you and Christ because you are one with Him. Jesus Christ lives in you dear believer and He is your true reality.
Ephesians 1:11-14 “We were also assigned an inheritance in him, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who does all things after the counsel of his will, to the end that we should be to the praise of his glory, we who had before hoped in Christ. In him you also, having heard the word of the truth, the Good News of your salvation—in whom, having also believed, you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is a pledge of our inheritance, to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of his glory.”
God is our Father and He has given us the family inheritance by making us His beloved Sons in Jesus Christ. When we heard the Gospel, we believed in Jesus Christ apart from our works to receive the Holy Spirit who lives in our bodies.
The Holy Spirit is the down-payment of our inheritance in heaven.
He is the guarantee for every believer to receive glory and immortality in heaven.
