In the world, we get our wages (salary) when we do our job.
But when it comes to God, He is not like the world.
If people try to attain salvation/blessings from God based on their works then they will get the wages of condemnation/death.
Romans 4 “4 Now to him who works, the reward is not counted as grace, but as something owed.”
The one who works for salvation will receive the wages of death!
Romans 6 “23 For the wages of sin is death”
It is because man’s works fall short of God’s glory and perfection!
Romans 3 “19 Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God. 20 Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight; for through the law comes the knowledge of sin…..23 for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God”
So then what do we do? Don’t try to work for salvation but believe in what Jesus did.
The one who does not work but BELIEVES in Jesus is made righteous without works!
Romans 4 “5 But to him who doesn’t work, but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness. 6 Even as David also pronounces blessing on the man to whom God counts righteousness apart from works,….to whom it will be accounted, who believe in him who raised Jesus, our Lord, from the dead, 25 who was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised for our justification.”
It’s because the only way our sins are forgiven is by the death of Christ, and not our apologies and re-dedications.
The only way we become righteous is by the resurrection of Christ and not our works.
The believer receives the wages of Christ’s finished work – the FREE GIFT of Eternal life!
Romans 6 “23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Jesus did all the work and if we trust in Him and not our works, we receive His wages of His work – that is the free gift of His righteousness.
Romans 5 “For if by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; so much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ.”
