The believer cannot perish!

The believer cannot perish and will not be judged.

But we may see this verse and think that we can lose salvation based on our works.

Romans 8 “13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.”

But when we read the context, we see that believers are not in the flesh but in the Spirit.

Romans 8 “9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.”

In fact, Paul said that the believer has already crucified the lusts of the flesh by receiving the Holy Spirit and we already belong to Christ – and we walk in our new identity in the Spirit.

Galatians 5 “24 Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let’s also walk by the Spirit.

Therefore the warning in scripture was only for unbelievers who are in the flesh and they will die because of unbelief. They die because the Law condemns them.

But believers have been made alive in Christ in the Spirit.

Colossians 2 “13 You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. He made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 wiping out the handwriting in ordinances which was against us. He has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross.”

This is why there is no condemnation for believers

Romans 8 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”

The believer has eternal life and will not perish! We will not be judged because Jesus already finished the work by taking away our sins!

John 5 “24 “Most certainly I tell you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and doesn’t come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

John 11 “25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. 26 Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?””

John 10 “27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father who has given them to me is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand.”
