Those who try to attain salvation by their good deeds are under a curse.
Galatians 3 “10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse. For it is written, “Cursed is everyone who doesn’t continue in all things that are written in the book of the law, to do them.” 11 Now that no man is justified by the law before God is evident, for, “The righteous will live by faith.” 12 The law is not of faith, but, “The man who does them will live by them.”
Its because there will be judgment for those who don’t obey everything in the Law to become perfect like God. This is why no man can be righteous by his works!
The only way to be righteous is by faith in Christ. It’s because Christ redeemed us from the curse:
Galatians 3 “3 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. For it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree,” 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”
- He died for our sins on the cross – it was the curse of the Law to die so horribly on the cross
- But He rose from the dead – why did He rise from the dead?
- The Law says that only those who obey everything in the Law will live (Romans 10).
- Jesus rose from the dead because He never sinned in His body on earth! He lived perfectly without even one sin! He loved everyone perfectly without sin.
- This is why His death on the cross redeems believers from the curse.
He redeemed us from the curse so that we are blessed with Holy Spirit by faith in Christ.
Ephesians 1 “13 In him you also, having heard the word of the truth, the Good News of your salvation—in whom, having also believed, you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a pledge of our inheritance, to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of his glory.”
The Holy Spirit is the down-payment of eternal life in heaven, where there is no curse of death or suffering for all believers.
Revelation 22 “3 There will be no curse any more. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will serve him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. “
Revelation 21 “4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away.””
