53 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. 56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. 58 This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”
When Adam sinned, he brought all the problems of this world.
What was his sin? It was to trust in his own flesh (his own righteousness, wisdom, his knowledge of good & evil) INSTEAD of trusting in God’s grace and love who had given him all things freely in the garden (including the tree of life)!
John 6 “63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. “
This is why our flesh is useless. Our human efforts & works that come from our own wisdom & motivation are useless.
But those led by the Spirit of GRACE are all that matters.
“Christ in me – It is not I who live but Christ in me.”
“Not me, but the GRACE of God working in me.”
“Not by might or power but by the Spirit”
The only thing that matters is the Spirit of God working in us through faith in Christ.
When Christ came, He was the 2nd Adam. But unlike the 1st Adam, our Lord Jesus Christ did not trust in Himself. He only trusted in the FATHER’s LOVE.
John 5 “19 Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed.”
What was the GREATEST work of our wonderful Lord Jesus?
He gave up His life, giving up His flesh and blood for the world.
John 6 “28 Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” 29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” 30 So they asked him, “What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? 31 Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
47 Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.48 I am the bread of life.49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. 50 But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
The Israelites trusted in the Law as their means of being righteous and blessed by God symbolized by the “manna” – but it was not good enough to be saved or justified.
This is why Christ came to give the TRUE BREAD – His own flesh and blood that gives life to the world (whosoever believes).
His flesh and blood are perfect, sinless, and He came from God. Jesus is God, being one with God as the Son of God.
But yet He became sin on the cross so that we become the Righteousness of God in Christ!
His flesh died but rose from the dead to justify us!
Romans 4 “God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.”
2nd Corinthians 5 “21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
