Did Jesus only die to give us a ticket to heaven after our suffering and struggling on this earth? NO, I don’t think so!
Our LORD Jesus Christ came to give us ABUNDANT life BOTH on earth and immortality in heaven!
Why do I say that? It’s because Adam’s sin resulted in both physical death, suffering AND hopelessness beyond the grave.
Look at the consequence of Adam & Eve’s sin of BELIEVING in the devil instead of TRUSTING in the GRACE of GOD. They trusted in their OWN WISDOM and STRENGTH instead of TRUSTING in GOD’s LOVE and GRACE who had given them the tree of life FREELY to eat in Genesis 2:8-15
“2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’” 4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
16 To the woman GOD said, “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” 17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. 18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”
20 Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.
21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. 22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” 23 So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. 24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.”
The sin of Adam resulted in man’s physical pain, death and no life beyond the grave! He was not allowed to live forever on the earth – this was the curse of man – suffering and death on the earth without any blessing!
Physical death and suffering was NEVER God’s plan for mankind!
Adam’s sin resulted NOT in something called “spiritual death” but it was DEATH …period. It was physical pain, death and emptiness beyond the grave.
So then mankind put himself under the power of the devil that brought physical death and all the problems of this world until JESUS CHRIST came to FREE us from physical death in our flesh and blood!
Hebrews 2 “14 Since the children have flesh and blood, JESUS (he) too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.”
God sent a man – His Son Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, without sin, but appeared in the flesh to DO GOOD and HEAL ALL those under the power of the devil.
“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.”
Jesus never sinned but He died for our sins and took all our curses and sickness and even physical death on the cross!
10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” 11 Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.” 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.
Man who trusts in his own works is under the curse of the law in Deuteronomy 28:15-68 that showed the curses of earthly suffering for Israel under the law. Israel’s being under the law was a magnified version of Adam’s sin. The law was the magnified version of the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Read Romans 7 to see that parallel). As you can see, both of these sins were about man trusting in their own wisdom/morality resulting in physical suffering and death on earth.
Therefore Jesus Christ had to physically die on the cross because it was a CURSE to die such a brutal painful physical death for OUR SAKE because we were sinners like Adam trusting in our own wisdom, strength and works.
Jesus was cursed in every way on the cross so that we are physically, emotionally and spiritually blessed
Jesus had to taste death for everyone so that He can give us HEALING, earthly blessing, prosperity on EARTH and immortality in heaven in the future!
Hebrews 2 9 But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.”
Just as Adam’s sin introduced physical death and suffering, in the same way Christ’s death and resurrection gives us immortality in heaven! Jesus had to be physically resurrected because He came to SAVE us from earthly death and suffering!
1 Corinthians 15
20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
When Jesus died on the cross, He took all our earthly physical sickness and problems so that He can bless us on earth as well!
Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
When Jesus physically healed the sick, this verse was fulfilled – healing was only given because He bore our sicknesses!
16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.”
Jesus willfully suffered the curses on the cross (all sickness, suffering, shame, dishonor) to give us God’s earthly blessings (health, healing, protection, prosperity, honor, favor, approval, wealth, family).
Jesus was made sick so that we can be healed and even protected from diseases!
Jesus suffered so we can be prospered.
Jesus gave up a family life so that we can have a blessed family on earth!
Jesus fasted for 40 days without food or water so that we can feast on the choicest foods for all the days of our lives!
Jesus had no place to rest his head so that we have homes to live in!
Jesus was dishonored and shamed so that there is honor and favor on us.
Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
Jesus gave up His life at a young age (33) so that we can have a LONG LIFE on earth and SALVATION in heaven through immortality!
Jesus suffered the greatest calamity on earth -the most horrific form of suffering and death in spite of not committing any sin….so that we who have sinned but TRUST in Him as our Righteousness, are protected from dangers and all horrible calamities!
Jesus Christ gave up His earthly desires and died on the cross so that God can fulfill our desires and dreams on earth!
35 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. 36 “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”
Psalm 20 May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.
Jesus suffered great mental agony and blood dropped out of His sweat glands so that we can live with sound minds, good mental health and free of the Adamic curse – redeeming us from the curse of sweat and painful toil.
Luke 22:44 “ And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.”
Jesus was forsaken on the cross so that God will never ever forsake you!
33 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. 34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
Jesus became poor and naked on the cross so that you are rich and clothed on the earth so that we can bless the poor!
2nd Corinthians 9 9 For you know the GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
Jesus decided not to have a family or children so that we can have children and they will all be taught by the LORD and great will be their peace!
Isaiah 54 “All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace. 14 In righteousness you will be established”
If we have suffered on the earth, then there will be restoration by His blood -because He suffered for our sake!
As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you,
I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit.
12 Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope;
even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.
God has given us EVERY SPIRITUAL blessing in Christ by LAVISH GRACE.
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us.
My friends, the spiritual blessing of God is the forgiveness of sins, being a child of God, being declared holy and blameless in Christ.
Christ became sin on the cross so that we who believe in Him become the RIGHTEOUSNESS of GOD. Just think of that – if you trust in Jesus and not your performance then God declares you AS RIGHTEOUS AS HIMSELF!!
2nd Corinthians 5 “21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
These spiritual blessings are far greater than the earthly blessings.
When we truly believe in the spiritual blessings that we are forgiven all sins and that we are truly righteous without our works, then the earthly blessings will pursue/follow us when we BELIEVE in His unconditional LOVE and GRACE.
Psalm 23 “SURELY your goodness and loving kindness will FOLLOW me all the days of my life…AND I will live in the house of the Lord forever”
David spoke of being blessed on earth AND living forever in heaven!
Christ died to give us BOTH spiritual and earthly blessings!
Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried and rose on the third day!
Everyone who believes in Christ without trusting in their works will receive the forgiveness of sins, the righteousness of God as a free gift!
We prosper in our souls and also in ALL things and our health thanks to Christ’s death!
3rd John 2 “Beloved, I pray that you may PROSPER in ALL things and be in health, JUST AS your SOUL PROSPERS.””
Christ suffered and died to reverse the curse of Adam’s sin to bless believers abundantly on earth and in heaven.
The key thing is this: We must not trust in our own performance. We cannot become holy, righteous or pleasing to God by any of our efforts but we must fully trust in JESUS CHRIST alone that He is our Righteousness and Holiness without a single work of yours!
Not only the first time we believe but every day of our Christian life! Some believers think that they are saved by grace the first time they believe in Christ but think that the rest of their Christian life is all about their works! That is wrong – the Christian life is completely by grace through faith and not based on our performance, from beginning to end. We have to trust Christ as your Righteousness and Holiness every day of your life and not trust in your own works! Holiness is not about our trying hard to be good but it is about Christ living in us and manifesting His fruit and power when we trust in Him and not in our efforts.
And then the earthly blessings will follow us in JESUS’ name!
