Confessing Jesus as our Righteousness

We live in an imperfect world where there are sin, sickness, and death. The entire world is gripped by the fear, disease, and death of the coronavirus. This is all because we live in a fallen world where Adam chose to trust in his own knowledge/wisdom/righteousness. He chose to trust in his flesh instead of God’s grace. This is because man trusts in his own righteousness of the flesh – this flesh cannot live forever and is flattened on the bed by a small invisible virus.

But Jesus Christ is the last Adam who came to bring righteousness as a free gift to all who believe. He died for our sins and took our sickness in His body on the cross and by His blood we are forgiven all sins and made righteous!

Romans 10

Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.

Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: “The person who does these things will live by them.” But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) “or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).

But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you BELIEVE and are JUSTIFIED, and it is with your mouth that you PROFESS your faith and are SAVED. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

When Jesus died on the cross, He took away the law and the sins of the world. He brought an end to the law that cursed mankind. But people still trust in their works thinking that if they stop sinning, then God will bless them. But they are ignorant of Christ’s righteousness which is the perfection of God. This is what happened to Israel who trusted in the law (10+603 commandments) instead of submitting to Christ.

The righteousness of the flesh is about doing good to be blessed and healed. But no one can become righteous in their own works. God gave the law to shut the world’s mouth to show us that we cannot become righteous in our own efforts. Adam made the same mistake of trying to become righteous in his own efforts.

People think that God will stop the sickness if they stop sinning. But they are wrong!! We need to submit to Christ as our righteousness! We need to stop trusting in our useless flesh (performance) and confess Christ as our righteousness!

If we believe in our heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and confess with our mouth that Jesus is LORD then we will be SAVED / DELIVERED from the problem.

What is the context of saying “Jesus is Lord” ?

It is in the context of confessing that we are RIGHTEOUS because of Jesus!

We confess that Jesus Christ is our Righteousness! Not by our works but our faith!!

1st Corinthians 1

30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”

We have to BOAST in Christ our Righteousness!

We should not shrink back in doubt or unbelief in these times of confusion in the world.

The world is guilty before God, but everyone who believes in Jesus is righteous by faith FREELY by grace!

Romans 3

19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.

21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

If we seek God’s kingdom and righteousness, then we will receive all things in this troubled time. We become righteous by trusting in Jesus Christ and not our works!

Why are we righteous?

2nd Corinthians 5

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

It is because God is not judging the world but has judged the sins of the world on Christ. We are righteous by faith because Jesus never sinned and became sin on the cross so that we who did nothing became the RIGHTEOUSNESS of GOD!!

Can you believe that?

If you believe in Jesus Christ, you are GOD’s RIGHTEOUSNESS.

You are as HOLY as GOD!

You are as RIGHTEOUS as GOD!

Your sins are gone forever! God will never judge the believer ever again (Hebrews 10:17)

You are as PERFECT as GOD!

You are as BLAMELESS as GOD!

Now if you believe that God raised Jesus from the dead then CONFESS the Lord JESUS as your RIGHTEOUSNESS!
