Christ came in the flesh to take away sins

Under the law, all men are guilty – both Jew and Gentile – because nobody could obey it perfectly in heart, word or deed. The law could never make anyone perfect and could never take away anyone’s sins. We are all trapped in this body of death until Jesus came!

Romans 7 “For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing……24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!”

God did not give the Law to save us OR perfect us because it was impossible due to our human weakness in the flesh!

Hebrews 7 “18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless 19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.”

Man could not save himself because the Law only made us more sin-conscious and condemned. The purpose of the Law was to bring us to Christ for salvation.

Romans 10 ” Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.”

Galatians 4 “23 Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. 24 So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith”

The law could never take away our sins because of our weakness and that is why Jesus Christ came to die for our sins. Jesus is God who came in the human BODY/flesh to make us believers PERFECT by His death on the cross! He never sinned but He died for our sins to make us perfect once for all!

HEBREWS 10 “4 It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. 5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a BODY you prepared for me; 6 with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. 7 Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll— I have come to do your will, my God.’” 8 First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”—though they were offered in accordance with the law. 9 Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second. 10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 14 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”

What is God’s will?

  • The Law and its yearly animal sacrifices could never take away sins and therefore God sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to come in a body to die for our sins.
  • Christ’s death on the cross took away the law and took away our sins forever!
  • Christ’s death made us perfect by one sacrifice once and for all.
  • Our entire lifetime of sins has been forgiven by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ which is received by faith in Jesus.
  • This is the New Covenant of Jesus Christ.

In this New Covenant, when we believe in Jesus, He forgives our sins and will write His law of love in our hearts through the Holy Spirit that indwelt Jesus Himself!
All of this freely by grace through faith in Jesus Christ!

Hebrews 10 “15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: 16 “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” 17 Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” 18 And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.”

What we were unable to do in our weak flesh, GOD DID in the body of Jesus Christ where our sins were condemned in His body and by our faith in Jesus, His spirit lives in so that there is no condemnation for us! Our sins were condemned in His body and the Holy Spirit who lived in His body has been given to us so that there is no condemnation for those who believe in Jesus Christ.

Romans 8 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God DID by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

Hebrews 1 “After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.”
HEBREWS 4 “14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Jesus appeared in the flesh and faced all the temptations known to man, but did not sin! He sat at the right hand of the Father after having purified us of all sin! He made us perfect and forgave us all sins! So now we can approach the throne of Grace for help when we struggle in our Christian walk. He is not sitting on a throne of judgment against us but He is seated on the throne of GRACE and LOVE reminding us of His great sacrifice that transforms us!

Colossians 2  For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ,12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

  • Jesus is the Perfect Son of God who is the fullness of divinity.
  • We were made complete and full in Christ! We are perfect and righteous as Jesus!
  • Our flesh was put away on the cross where ALL our sins were forgiven!
  • We were dead in sin but made ALIVE by faith in Christ through His resurrection!
  • The law that condemned us was CANCELED on the cross!
  • So there is no more condemnation or accusation against us!
  • We are forgiven and loved forever thanks to JESUS!

Colossians 2 ” So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

We did not receive Jesus Christ by our human efforts in the flesh but by grace through faith in His loving sacrifice on the cross. The entire Christian life is just like how we began it – by grace through faith in His love for us. All we have to do is to keep looking at Jesus in faith – the author and finisher of our faith:

Hebrews 12 “And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
