Many people like to believe in a God who will save everyone universally. They cannot imagine the fact that unbelievers will be sent to the Lake of Fire in the final judgment. But we cannot go beyond what is written in the Bible. We cannot invent our own ear-tickling doctrines of universalism! The Bible is God’s Word that declares that only those who have faith in Christ will be saved and everyone else will perish.
The Apostle Paul was NOT universalist!
Galatians 1 “8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!”
If universalism was true, then there would be no curse for preaching “another” gospel. The Gospel preached by Paul was salvation by faith in Christ for the believer but there is judgment and wrath for the unbeliever! Any other Gospel is false and those who preach a false gospel are under the curse!
This is why Paul warned those who loved wickedness, that they would not be saved.
1st Corinthians 6 “2 Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world?…..9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”
Galatians 5 “19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
Galatians 6 “7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
Ephesians 5 “3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them.”
Paul warned them not to go back to the flesh otherwise they would die:
Romans 8 ” 12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it.13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.”
Paul clearly preached that everyone would be judged in the resurrection at Christ’s 2nd coming and judgment:
2nd Corinthians 5 “9 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”
Peter warned people not to twist the words of Paul.
Paul clearly did not believe in universalism.
2nd Peter 3 “
8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.…….14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 15 Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.”
Universalism is also proven false in the Book of Revelation:
John, the writer of Revelation says that only believers will be saved but that unbelievers and those who love wickedness will be judged in the Lake of Fire.
Rev 21 “6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.””
Rev 22 “14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.”
Clearly, unbelievers and those who love wickedness will go to the lake of fire (2nd death) in the future judgment.
What is the lake of fire? It is the 2nd death – no more chance after that. It is when death itself is abolished – clearly, that means the final judgment is in the future!
Rev 20 “14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.””
Some say that God is a consuming fire that purifies sinners before admitting them into heaven. But let’s see what is the purpose of the consuming fire?
Psalm 21 “Your hand will lay hold on all your enemies;
your right hand will seize your foes.
9 When you appear for battle,
you will burn them up as in a blazing furnace.
The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
and his fire will consume them.
10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth,
their posterity from mankind.”
Isaiah 30 “See, the Name of the Lord comes from afar,
with burning anger and dense clouds of smoke;
his lips are full of wrath, and his tongue is a consuming fire.”
The Lake of Fire is about God’s wrath and judgment. It is not a restorative fire or purifying fire to save sinners but it is the 2nd death – with no more forgiveness.
The judgment is everlasting and eternal. If eternal life is immortality then surely eternal punishment is not a restorative judgment but it is eternal damnation.
Matthew 25 “34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world…..41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels…..46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
If a person lives in rebellious sin OR rejection of Christ, then there is only judgment expected:
Hebrews 10 “26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. 28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” 31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
So then if the Book of Revelation is comprehensively clear that there is no salvation for anyone except believers in Jesus Christ, then let us heed this warning:
Revelation 20 “18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.’
Please for our own sake, let us not preach universal inclusion/reconciliation/salvation because it is a FALSE message!!
The TRUE Gospel is this:
John 3 “16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.
Only believers in Christ receive immortality/eternal life.
Unbelievers will perish forever in the lake of fire.
If you are a believer following Jesus, then you have nothing to worry.
We will be saved from the wrath of God that will come in the final judgment/resurrection in the future!
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God……6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! “
