We know that God is perfectly righteous, holy and immortal. But that we are imperfect sinners and mortal beings who will die and return to the dust.
How much does God love us? He became a man through His Son Jesus Christ who never sinned but is perfectly righteous, holy and immortal.
How much does Jesus love us? Let’s see what the Bible tells us:
Isaiah 53
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.
Christ suffered and died for our sins so that He could give us His righteousness and peace! He did this while we were sinners and could do nothing good! That is how much God loves us!
Romans 5
6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Just think of it – God who created all things loved us so much that He came as a man through Jesus and never sinned but died for our sins and rose from the dead – so that we who did nothing good became as Righteous as God when we believe in Jesus.
2nd Corinthians 5 “God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
What is the Righteousness of God? It is Holiness, Perfection without any sin! God made us Righteous when we believed in Jesus! How did this happen? Jesus became our sin and we became the righteousness of God!! What a glorious Gospel!
There is nothing good in my flesh. I am Righteous by Christ’s Obedience. I did nothing and I could do nothing. But I am the Righteousness of God in Christ by His death on the cross!
We could do nothing because we were dead in sin and therefore Jesus came and died with us and He made us alive with Him when He rose from the dead. This great salvation was given to us by grace when we believed in Jesus!
Ephesians 2
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Jesus is immortal and we are mortal. We cannot even keep ourselves alive but Jesus who never sinned came and died WITH US and made us ALIVE WITH HIM!! We receive this immortality when we believe in Him – we receive it by grace and not by works! All who believe in Jesus will receive immortality in the resurrection.
We were made perfect, holy and blameless in Christ before we were even born!
Ephesians 1
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding,
This salvation of the forgiveness of sins and being made holy/blameless is received when we believed in Christ.
Ephesians 1
13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.”
We are imperfect and flawed in our human nature, but Jesus is the Son of God who came in the flesh and died – by His One sacrifice, He made us HOLY and PERFECT once and for all – His death and resurrection made us HOLY and PERFECT!
Hebrews 10 “8 First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”—though they were offered in accordance with the law. 9 Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second.10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.…For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”
This is what Jesus says to His bride whom He has washed by His word:
Song of Songs 4
You are altogether beautiful, my darling;
there is no flaw in you.
You have stolen my heart, my sister, my bride;
you have stolen my heart
with one glance of your eyes,
with one jewel of your necklace.
10 How delightful is your love, my sister, my bride!
How much more pleasing is your love than wine,
Jesus said – “IT IS FINISHED.”
We were imperfect & unholy in our flesh but Christ made us perfect, holy and blameless by faith in Him!
We were sinners but Christ made us the Righteousness of God by faith in Him!
We were dead in sin and mortal in the flesh but when we believed in Christ He made us alive and promised us immortality at the resurrection.
