Jesus: Our King of Eternal Life

I would like to wish you all a Blessed Good Friday & Happy Easter!
This week I want to write to you about how Jesus Christ is our King who gives us Eternal Life.

From the history of Israel, we know that they were ruled by judges after they entered the promised land. But Israel wanted a king of their own and Saul became their first king. He was the tallest and most handsome man in Israel who appeared well qualified to be their king but he turned out to be a failure after ruling for a mere 40 years. Saul represented the efforts of the flesh that could not please God.

But God chose David by grace because he was a mere shepherd not chosen by human strength. God told David that his kingdom would last forever. But David also was a weak man who committed many sins in spite of enjoying God’s favor. David reigned for 40 years and died and went to the grave! Therefore the question must be asked whether David was really the true king of Israel? David was simply a shadow or forerunner to the King of Kings – Jesus Christ! Jesus never sinned and He died but rose from the dead. Christ ruled not just for 40 years but He rules forever and ever! The true King is Jesus alone!

This is described beautifully in Acts 13

Acts 13:21-“Then the people asked for a king, and he gave them Saul son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled forty years.22 After removing Saul, he made David their king.God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ 23 “From this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised. 24 Before the coming of Jesus, John preached repentance and baptism to all the people of Israel. 25 As John was completing his work, he said: ‘Who do you suppose I am? I am not the one you are looking for. But there is one coming after me whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.’26 “Fellow children of Abraham and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent. 27 The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus, yet in condemning him they fulfilled the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath. 28 Though they found no proper ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed. 29 When they had carried out all that was written about him, they took him down from the cross and laid him in a tomb. 30 But God raised him from the dead, 31 and for many days he was seen by those who had traveled with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to our people. 32 “We tell you the good news: What God promised our ancestors 33 he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm:“‘You are my son; today I have become your father.’34 God raised him from the dead so that he will never be subject to decay. As God has said, “‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.’ 35 So it is also stated elsewhere: “‘You will not let your holy one see decay.’36 “Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed. 37 But the one whom God raised from the dead did not see decay. 38 “Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. 39 Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.”

This shows the amazing contrast between man’s feeble efforts and God’s powerful and everlasting grace in Christ who alone made us righteous and forgave our sins! Israel tried to choose their own king but man can do nothing to attain justification/forgiveness in his own efforts. The true King is Jesus Christ Himself who lives forever and gave us Righteousness freely!

God created man as imperfect flesh who can do nothing. The flesh cannot boast before God because we are imperfect and mortal beings who will not live forever in these bodies. Therefore Jesus alone is our righteousness because He has done everything for us.

1st Corinthians 1 “28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption

Eventually we will all die because man is mortal and imperfect but we will live forever if we believe that Jesus died for us and he lives forever. We will see Jesus in His glory and majesty and worship Daddy God and Jesus. He alone is our righteousness. He alone is our eternal life. He is our only hope.

1st Timothy 4 “we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.
Every human being is forgiven but we must believe in Christ to be saved and receive eternal life.

1st Timothy 1 “15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Jesus gives immortality to all who believe in Him.

Revelation 21 “‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.”

Jesus is our King who lives forever. He is our Righteousness.
Every blessing on earth is because He suffered on the cross.
Our riches are given to us because Jesus became poor.
Our health is gifted to us because Jesus was wounded for our sake.
God’s favor is granted to us because Jesus was betrayed and beaten.
He became sin to make us righteous freely.
He died so that we can live forever in heaven with Him.
Thank you Jesus! Thank you Daddy God for your great love!
